oops, went too fast there. If it is the sockets they may be able to tighten the feet that hold the tube pins in socket.

Hi,
I doubt both sockets went out at the same time. It's probably the heater feed to the tubes opened.

Hi,
Going by what you're saying the problem is only in the drive and more drive, right? Well if the clean channel has no problems the filter caps in the supply are not the first thing I would suspect or any of the tubes except the overdrive tube.. With that motorboating only in drive I would look at the drive circuit. I don't have that schematic but one close to it and there looks like there's a big .047uf 400v cap in that circuit. I would check that real good. If that's not it, check the other caps around that tube would be the first thing from what I can tell at this point. Check voltages around there or look at it with a scope, your noise should be pretty strong in that area.

Good Luck!

Hi Gary, It;s my first time here and have found useful info. Hope you can help me.

I have a Hot Rod Deville (Ref schematics #050084), I bought it used and working 3 years ago. About a month ago it started making a motorcycle noises when the drive is activated and in more drive mode the noise is worst. Also it had a blue light in the left side of the tubes. I took it to my tech and he changed all the tubes for new ones, same reference He change the zener 1N5245B, also the ICTL072, the U2A, the MOSFET (Q1 Q2), and checked all the voltages and they seem to be working properly.

Unfortunately he can't find the source of the problem. He is about to start checking the filters and the power source.

Any recommendations? Literature/troubleshooting step-by-step?
I appreciate any info, I am desperate at this point.

thanks,
Bob

Hi,
I believe those amps the board will come out towards you a couple of inches and then you got to pull the board down a couple of inches and you can clear the pots past the lip of the top part of the chassis. This is all from memory, you can relieve some of the wires by clipping the tie wraps and some of the transformers wires have to come off. MARK everything so there's no question when reassembly or you'll know the meaning of the blues for sure. Never force anything but it does get a little snug in there before you clear the lip. Or you can just keep disassembling things til you get it out but make notes and mark accordingly.

Hi,

I doubt it's the tubes unless they were still pretty warm from the show but usually that's not the case. It's not good to jar or shock hot tubes but probably by the time you got your amp outside they were cooled down. Reseating them would be the first thing, if you still have a volume drop then it could be anything really. I'm not completely ruling the tubes out but I wouldn't go out and buy a set just to see.

Hi Gary,

I bought a used Fender HotRod Deville 212 that works great except for a "Middle" knob that is broken off. My question is similar to #3 above, but I have a brief technical question. I bought the Pot to replace the broken one, and started disassembling the back. From what I can tell, the circuit board has to come out, and old Pot soldered out, and new one soldered in. I have some experience with soldering electronics, so I feel I'm up to the job. However, the circuit board itself is being a bit uncooperative in coming out of the unit. I suspect (fear) that I have to disconnect all the wire leads to the circuit board (I've removed all the upper nuts, and the screws holding the circuit board. Any advice on getting the board out once all the screws and nuts are removed? Thanks.

Hi Gary-
I've got a Deville amp. Love it. At last weeks gig, I was rolling it out of the club (has wheels), it hit a groove on the pavement and actually tipped over on the cement. The first time I used it after it dumped, the volume was super low and would jump up really loud at different points in my show. I've never had an issue with it and at 1, it's always seemed pretty darned loud. Any idea what this could be? I'm thinking maybe the tubes got goofed up and I popped them back in. The second from the right tube crackled a bit when I'd move the tube, so I pulled it out and popped it back in. The crackle went away, but I'm curious if the tubes could've got damaged when it got dropped. At 1, this amp is usually pretty loud. It still gets loud and sounds okay, but it seems I have to turn it up to about 3. Does it sound like I should change the tubes or is does it sound like something else? Thanks
